Titanium Pocket and Corner Access

For titanium cavities, depth-to-width ratio, slot width and tool overhang determine tool access. Minimum internal radius for conventional end milling is R0.5 mm. At a cavity depth of 40 mm, R1.0 mm is a recommended starting point. Standard cavity depth-to-width ratio is 4:1, extending to 5:1 with long-reach tools. Titanium low thermal conductivity concentrates cutting heat at the cutting edge, while deep cavities need long tool overhang with limited rigidity. Identify internal radii and surface requirements together on the drawing.

Titanium Thin Walls and Ribs

Thin walls and ribs can distort after material removal due to clamping stress and residual material stress. Minimum metal wall thickness can reach 0.5 mm, depending on material, geometry and clamping, with blank pretreatment, stress-relief aging and optimized machining parameters required. Minimum rib thickness is 0.8 mm with a height-to-width ratio of 8:1, requiring chatter-risk evaluation.

Titanium Mounting Faces and Hole Patterns

Mounting-face flatness can reach 0.02 mm over a maximum machining area of 1030 x 1030 mm, with hole-pattern position of 0.01 mm. Define design datums, hole diameter, hole count and inspection method for position requirements. For hole patterns in different directions, single-setup feasibility depends on geometry and fixture obstruction. Relate features needing setup changes through common drawing datums to provide a unified inspection basis.

Titanium Finish for Assembly Faces

Titanium mounting and contact faces can use standard milling at Ra 3.2 um or precision milling at Ra 1.6 um according to assembly requirements. Identify precision-milled areas and texture requirements on the drawing. Roughness is established separately from hole position, flatness and other requirements.

Applications

Aerospace Structural Brackets and Mounting Plates

Aircraft equipment brackets and lightweight mounting plates need reduced weight while maintaining accurate mounting-interface locations. Titanium alloy high specific strength suits these weight-constrained parts. Milling produces weight-reduction pockets, mounting faces and locating-hole patterns in plate or block blanks. Flight and spacecraft uses require evaluation against drawings and requirements.

Medical Instrument Connector Blocks and Bone Plates

Instrument connector blocks contain steps, profiles and locating holes, while bone plates mainly feature external profiles and hole rows. Both are non-rotational structures suited to milling. Titanium biocompatibility is one material-selection consideration for medical parts. Implant uses require evaluation against drawings and requirements.

Marine Instrument Mounts

Sensor mounts and instrument end plates have prolonged seawater exposure, making titanium seawater corrosion resistance a primary material-selection factor. The positions of datum mounting faces, fixing holes and mating bores determine assembly alignment. Milling can produce these interfaces on the same part. The project defines the actual service media.

Racing Suspension Brackets

Suspension link brackets and damper mounts have milled weight-reduction pockets while retaining mounting planes and bolt-hole patterns, controlling weight and connection locations together. Titanium alloys offer high strength and low density and are commonly used in weight-sensitive load-bearing parts. Fatigue and load validation follow customer requirements.

Why Choose Us

Quality Systems and Equipment Support

Our factory operates under ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C quality systems, with equipment from DMG, Mazak, Matsuura and Brother supporting milling of titanium brackets, housings and plate structures.

Milling Support from Small Parts to Large Structures

Machining coverage extends from small connectors to large structural parts, with 3-axis milling travel of 3000 x 1600 x 1400 mm. Weight-reduction pockets, mounting faces and hole patterns on titanium parts can be coordinated with deburring, blasting or polishing in the same project, with scope determined by material and drawing requirements.

Equipment Configured for Accuracy Requirements

Our equipment spans four tiers from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe and the United States. Machines follow part and operation accuracy requirements to balance quality and cost. Higher-precision mounting faces and hole patterns on titanium parts can receive equipment suited to their requirements separately from general structural surfaces.

Prototype Validation from 1 Piece

The MOQ is 1 piece. Prototypes usually take 3-7 days, with batch production following sample approval. An NDA can be signed as required for confidential drawings.

Inspection and Material Documents according to the Order

CMM and FAI reports can be agreed for mounting faces, hole patterns and precision-milled contact faces. Material certificates can also be supplied according to the order, helping you verify first articles and subsequent deliveries.

FAQ

How should I specify corner radii for titanium milled pockets?

An internal radius of at least R0.5 mm is recommended due to end mill limits. At a cavity depth of 40 mm, start from R1.0 mm. Deeper cavities generally need larger internal radii. Perfectly sharp corners require EDM or a design adjustment. Identify internal radii and cavity depth on the drawing for tool-access review.

What affects the minimum wall thickness of a titanium milled part?

Minimum metal wall thickness can reach 0.5 mm with blank pretreatment, stress-relief aging and optimized machining parameters. Consistent feasibility in titanium also depends on wall height, rib geometry and clamping rigidity, which affect distortion after material removal and require evaluation for the specific structure.

Should I choose TC4 or TA2 for a milled bracket?

Load-bearing brackets generally prioritize TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) for its higher strength. TA2 is commercially pure titanium with lower strength and good corrosion resistance and formability, better suited to corrosion-focused parts with lower strength demands. Specify grade and supply condition on the drawing. Approximate standards are not treated as fully equivalent. Material certificates can be supplied according to the order.

Can deep pockets be milled in titanium?

Yes. Standard cavity depth-to-width ratio is 4:1, extending to 5:1 with long-reach tools. The low thermal conductivity of titanium and long tool overhang in deep cavities mean width, internal radii and surface-quality requirements determine achievable depth. Include a cavity model with the inquiry.

How can I verify mounting faces and hole patterns?

CMM measurement can verify mounting-face and hole-pattern relationships. Define common datums and critical dimensions on the drawing. Hole-pattern position of 0.01 mm and flatness of 0.02 mm both require defined datums and inspection methods. CMM and FAI report scope follows the order. Functional threads can use go/no-go or ring gauges.

What information do you need to quote a titanium milling part?

Provide 2D/3D drawings in STEP, IGES, STP or DWG format, or dimensioned PDF, together with material grade and supply condition, quantity, critical tolerances and intended use. Titanium cutting difficulty, pocket depth and slot width, thin walls, material-removal volume, surface quality and CMM/FAI scope affect quotation. The MOQ is 1 piece, prototypes usually take 3-7 days and standard orders 10-15 days depending on complexity and quantity. An NDA can be signed when confidentiality is needed.

Can you assess a titanium bone plate from a drawing?

Yes. Bone-plate profiles, hole rows, material and acceptance documents are evaluated against drawings and requirements. Suitability for implant use requires project-specific evaluation. Submit drawings and relevant quality requirements.
