Custom Titanium CNC Turning and Milling Parts
Overview
Titanium connectors with side holes and wrench flats require rotational outside diameters, end faces and radial features to be machined from related datums. XCM CNC provides titanium alloy turning and milling, coordinating turning, milling and drilling according to geometry for rotational parts such as tube fittings, instrument connectors and drive shafts with radial features. The high specific strength of titanium and seawater corrosion resistance suit these connectors. Turn-mill equipment can reduce setup changes for suitable features, while drawings determine the overall process route. Orders start at 1 piece, with batch production following sample approval. An NDA can be signed when confidentiality is required.

Titanium Rotational Datums and Side-Hole Position
Combined turning and milling plans rotational outside diameters, end faces and side holes on titanium parts as related features. The Mazak i-100S turn-mill center has a second spindle and performs turning, milling and drilling, reducing setup changes where geometry permits. Side-hole pattern position can reach 0.01 mm, depending on datums, hole count and inspection method.
Titanium Flats and Keyway Tool Access
Titanium has low thermal conductivity, concentrating cutting heat at the cutting edge. Tool life and surface condition are therefore more affected when milling wrench flats and keyways. Cutting volume and tool approach direction influence process planning. Minimum keyway width is 1.0 mm. Slot depth, clamping faces, side-hole positions and allowance determine whether these features can share a setup with rotational surfaces or need separate setups.
Titanium Cross-Hole Deburring
Cross-holes can be deburred. Internal passages can be machined with a minimum width of 3.0 mm and minimum depth of 1.0 mm. Burr locations and cleanliness requirements determine the deburring approach and should be identified on the drawing.
Titanium Sealing Grooves and Threads
O-ring grooves start at 1.0 mm width with depth tolerances down to 0.01 mm. Specify groove-surface roughness and burr requirements according to the sealing design. Threads follow drawing standards and functional threads are checked with go/no-go or ring gauges. The relationship between rotational sealing faces and radial holes is verified against drawing datums.

Applications
Titanium Tube Fittings for Aerospace
Tube fittings and wrench-flat connector bodies have weight and media requirements. Titanium high specific strength and corrosion resistance suit these connections. Turning produces rotational ports and sealing faces, while milling produces wrench flats and mounting holes. Feature relationships are verified against drawing datums. Flight uses require evaluation against drawings and requirements.
Medical Instrument Connection Shafts
Drive shafts and instrument transmission shafts often use titanium, with biocompatibility being one material-selection consideration for medical parts. Turning produces shaft diameters and end rotational fits, while drive flats or side holes connect mating components. Drawings define intended use and cleanliness requirements. Implant uses require evaluation against drawings and requirements.
Marine Instrument Connectors
Instrument connectors and radial-port fittings operate in seawater, making titanium seawater corrosion resistance a primary material-selection factor. Radial ports and end interfaces share the same part. Relationships between rotational sealing faces, bores and radial holes affect assembly alignment. Subsea uses require evaluation against drawings and requirements.
Robot Connection Shafts for Special Operating Conditions
End-effector shafts and keyed coupling shafts can use titanium alloys where weight reduction is needed, with material selection dependent on loads and operating conditions. Journals provide rotational fits, while keyways, flats and side holes transmit motion or secure mating components. These must remain related to the axis and mating interfaces.

FAQ
How should a radial hole be located relative to a turned titanium diameter?
Side-hole position is usually defined from the rotational axis plus an end face or shoulder face. Specify position tolerance and inspection method on the drawing. Hole-pattern position can reach 0.01 mm, depending on datums, hole count and measurement method.
Can turning, milling, and drilling be completed in one setup?
Yes, for suitable parts. The Mazak i-100S turn-mill center has a second spindle and coordinates rotational surfaces, side holes and flats on one machine. Completion in the same setup depends on geometry, clamping space and accuracy requirements.
How should cross-hole burrs and internal cleanliness be specified?
Cross-holes can be deburred and internal passages machined. Burr locations and cleanliness requirements determine the deburring approach, so state these on the drawing. Specify any leak testing or plug arrangements separately during inquiry so the scope can be established.
What should I specify for titanium sealing grooves and threads?
O-ring grooves start at 1.0 mm width with a depth tolerance of 0.01 mm. Internal threads start at M1.4 and external threads at M2.0. Functional threads use go/no-go or ring gauges. Specify groove width, depth, surface roughness, burr requirements and thread standards during inquiry.
Which titanium grade and heat-treatment condition should I specify?
This depends on loads, media and design standards. TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) has higher strength. TA2 is commercially pure titanium with lower strength and good formability and corrosion resistance. We machine to the drawing grade and condition and can supply material certificates according to the order. Specify supply and heat treatment conditions, which affect hardness, cutting conditions and the process route for combined features.
What information is needed to quote a titanium turn-milled connector?
A quote requires 2D/3D drawings in STEP, IGES, STP or DWG format, or dimensioned PDF, together with material grade and supply condition, quantity, critical tolerances and intended use. Titanium cutting difficulty, rotational-to-radial datum relationships, setups, threads and sealing-groove dimensions jointly affect operations and quotation. The MOQ is 1 piece. Prototypes usually take 3-7 days and standard orders 10-15 days depending on complexity and quantity.
Can flight-critical or subsea titanium connectors be assessed?
Yes. Drawings and your acceptance requirements are used to evaluate whether geometry, material, inspection and delivery documents can be met. Your design requirements determine whether the part is flight-critical or intended for subsea use. Submit drawings and the relevant acceptance requirements.
