Custom Precision Zinc CNC Turned Parts
Overview
After CNC finish turning, zinc alloy die-cast sleeves, rings and cylindrical connector shells can achieve shaft diameter tolerances of h6 / +/-0.005 mm and roundness of 0.006 mm, suitable for rotational parts that primarily use inside and outside diameter fits. Bores, outside diameters, locating registers and end faces on die-cast blanks are finished on a Mazak i-100S turn-mill center or Jingshang 80 automatic lathe, with thin-wall clamping and post-plating dimensions considered together. XCM CNC is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C. The MOQ is 1 piece, prototypes take 3-7 days and standard lead time is 10-15 days. Zinc Shaft and Bore Fits with Roundness Control
After finish turning, zinc alloy sleeves and rings can achieve h6 / +/-0.005 mm shaft diameters and H7 / +/-0.006 mm bores, specified using ISO 286 fit grades. With a common rotational datum, inside-to-outside diameter coaxiality can reach 0.012 mm, roundness 0.006 mm and long-sleeve cylindricity 0.011 mm / 1030 mm. Roundness is checked on a roundness tester and coaxiality on a Hexagon Inspector Classic 06.08.06 CMM.
Thin-Wall Zinc Sleeve Turning and End-Face Runout
Minimum wall thickness for thin-wall zinc alloy sleeves is 0.5 mm, requiring blank pretreatment, stress-relief aging and optimized machining parameters. Direct three-jaw clamping can distort thin walls into a triangular form, so soft jaws that support the circumference or an expanding mandrel supporting the bore are used instead. Stock is removed in separate rough-turning and finish-turning stages. Face runout can be controlled to 0.012 mm, with a TRIMOS 600L height gauge supporting inspection.
Zinc Grooves, O-Ring Seats and Knurled Turned Knobs
Minimum groove width on zinc alloy turned parts is 0.5 mm. O-ring grooves have a minimum width of 1.0 mm and a depth tolerance of 0.01 mm. Knobs and handles can have straight or diamond knurling with modules of 0.3-1.0. Zinc has relatively low hardness, and excessive knurling pressure can raise burrs, so an additional edge-breaking operation of approximately 0.1 mm generally follows knurling.
Zinc Bore Honing and Plating Allowance for Turned Parts
Honed bores in zinc alloy rotational parts can achieve Ra 0.8 um for sliding fits and sealing bores. Plating thickness ranges from 3-20 um. H7 bores and h6 shaft diameters require dimensional allowance before plating to avoid post-plating nonconformance. Coating type and final plated dimensions depend on drawing and order requirements.

Applications
Lock Cylinder Sleeves and Handle Trim Rings
Typical parts: Lock cylinder sleeve, handle trim ring
Turning die-cast bores, outside diameters and end faces corrects mating dimensions and axial contact faces. Machining priorities: H7 / +/-0.006 mm bores and face runout of 0.012 mm. Lock loads and wear life are defined by part design and operating requirements.
Circular Connector Housings
Typical parts: Circular connector housing, connector backshell
Finish turning of registers, cylindrical mating surfaces and end faces suits zinc die-cast housings dominated by coaxial circular features and axial assembly faces. Machining priorities: Backshell external threads down to M2.0, checked with ring gauges. Conductive or shielding performance is verified against product-specific requirements.
Encoder Housings and Circular Locating Sleeves
Typical parts: Encoder housing, locating sleeve
Turning bores, outside diameters and end faces produces related cylindrical mating surfaces and axial datums. Machining priorities: h6 locating-sleeve outside diameters and roundness of 0.006 mm. Loads and wear requirements are evaluated against the specific design.
Instrument Adjustment Knobs and Trim Rings
Typical parts: Adjustment knob, instrument trim ring
Turning knob bores, end faces and outside diameters suits parts requiring shaft-hole or contact-face finishing in addition to the die-cast form. Machining priorities: Knurl modules of 0.3-1.0 and trim-ring cosmetic surfaces at Ra 1.6 um with consistent texture. Zinc substrate pretreatment must suit the coating before plating.
Model Hubs and Disc Components
Typical parts: Model hub, disc component
Shaft bores, end faces and outside diameters are turned while retaining the die-cast body and correcting only rotational mating dimensions. Machining priorities: Circular runout of 0.01 mm; the Jingshang 80 automatic lathe suits repeat production of small parts. Dynamic loads and service life are determined by the specific model design and application requirements.

Customization from Drawings or Physical Samples
Parts can be customized from 2D/3D drawings or customer-supplied used parts and samples, suitable for replacement orders for older lock sleeves and knobs. Critical dimensions are measured and established from the sample before quotation. Project information can be handled under an NDA.
Delivery from Prototypes to Batches
Single samples are generally delivered in 3-7 days. Batches are scheduled after you approve shaft diameters, bores and post-plating fits, with batch lead times of 10-15 days. This supports a regular schedule for single-part validation and small-to-medium batch replenishment.
FAQ
When should a zinc die-cast sleeve be finish-turned?
When die-cast bores, outside diameters, registers or end faces need mating dimensions, these rotational features can be turned from the blank. Machining scope depends on geometry and drawings.
How are shaft diameter tolerance and coaxiality specified?
Shaft diameter tolerance controls the size of an individual outside diameter. Coaxiality controls the relationship of related inside and outside diameters to a common datum. Precision metal features can achieve +/-0.003 mm. Specify shaft diameter and geometric requirements separately on the drawing.
What material documents should accompany a zinc turning request?
Provide the drawing-specified Zamak or ZA grade, applicable standard and blank condition, together with any existing material certificate. Names from different series are not assumed equivalent.
Can you quote a zinc turned part from a physical sample?
Yes. After receiving the sample, critical dimensions are measured and tolerances and material are established with you before quotation. Drawings help speed up the quotation.
What inspection report comes with turned zinc parts?
Each batch includes a dimensional inspection report. State any requirements for CMM reports, FAI reports or material certificates when ordering.
How are plated zinc sleeves protected during shipping?
Parts are separated with foam and packed in cartons, with wooden cases available for larger batches or heavier parts. Shipping options include DHL, FedEx, UPS and sea freight, selected according to delivery needs.
Can you sign an NDA before I send die-cast drawings?
