Aluminum CNC Milled Mounting Faces with 0.02 mm Flatness and Hole Position Control

Mounting faces on aluminum housings, fixture baseplates and linear guide mounting plates can achieve 0.02 mm flatness over areas up to 1030 x 1030 mm, with locating hole-pattern position tolerance of 0.015 mm. Parallelism between two mounting faces is 0.03 mm over a 1030 mm reference length. Cover contact faces, guide seats and locating holes are milled on the same part. A CMM inspects mounting faces and hole positions against drawing datums.

Aluminum Housing Deep Cavity CNC Milling: 4:1 Depth Ratio, R1.0 mm Internal Corners

Deep cavities, internal steps and recesses in electronic housings provide compact mounting space for circuit boards, modules and connectors. Cavity depth-to-width ratios can reach 4:1, or 5:1 with longer tools. Internal corners in a 40 mm deep cavity can be machined to R1.0 mm, while shallow regions can achieve R0.5 mm. Finish-milled sidewalls can achieve Ra 1.6 um, and cavity floor flatness is controlled to mounting requirements.

CNC Milled Aluminum Thin-Wall Housings: 0.5 mm Minimum Wall Thickness

Aluminum housings and weight-reduced plates can be machined with metal walls as thin as 0.5 mm. Blank pretreatment, aging for stress relief and layered cutting help control deformation in parts with extensive material removal. Machining parameters are adjusted for wall thickness and structural stiffness. Mounting face flatness is 0.02 mm, and wall thickness uniformity is spot-checked with a probe during machining.

Aluminum Cooling Fin and Thermal Contact Face CNC Milling

Cooling fins, heat-source contact faces and mounting holes are milled on the same heat-dissipation part. Minimum fin thickness is 0.8 mm and minimum spacing is 1.0 mm. Burrs at fin roots are removed after machining. Heat-source contact faces are finish-milled to Ra 1.6 um with 0.02 mm flatness. Contact face roughness is measured with a Leader NCA8106 roughness tester. Exterior regions can also be sandblasted or anodized.

Why Choose Us

Quality Systems and Machining Equipment for Custom Projects

XCM CNC’s quality systems include ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C. The factory operates DMG 80mono, Mazak I-100S, Matsuura MX-520 and Brother machining centers for aluminum machining and dimensional inspection.

Coordinated Machining from Small Connectors to Large Structural Parts

The machining range covers small connectors through large structural parts, with milling travel up to 3000 x 1600 x 1400 mm. Milling, hole machining, threading and edge breaking for housings, covers and mounting plates can be coordinated together. Finished surfaces can be sandblasted or anodized, so structural and appearance requirements are handled by one supplier.

Tiered Equipment Strategy for Low-Cost CNC Machining, Quality-Assured Production

XCM CNC groups its CNC equipment into four tiers: mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe and North America. Lower-tolerance operations such as general milled faces and through-holes use mainland Chinese or Taiwanese equipment. Finish milling of mounting faces and locating holes requiring 0.02 mm flatness and 0.015 mm position tolerance uses imported machines such as DMG and Mazak. Equipment is matched to each part’s actual accuracy requirements to reduce machining costs while meeting drawing requirements.

Dimensional Reports and Material Traceability for Production Batches

CMM dimensional inspection reports and material certificates can be supplied for each production batch of milled parts. Critical dimensions and appearance are checked by sampling or full inspection as required by the drawings. Prototypes typically take 3-7 days and production typically takes 10-15 days, depending on part complexity and quantity. Repeat orders can use the first batch’s inspection datums and acceptance criteria to reduce repeated confirmation.

Matching Housing and Cover Colors for a Consistent Assembly Appearance

Housings, covers and panels for the same project can use the same aluminum material batch and the same sandblasting and anodizing processes to reduce color and texture variation between batches. Colors are controlled using specified reference numbers. Once prototype color and texture are approved, production parts are accepted against the approved sample. Assembly appearance consistency is addressed during machining.

FAQ

Can you machine square internal corners in an aluminum housing cavity?

End milling leaves rounded internal corners, with a minimum radius of R0.5 mm. Internal corners in a 40 mm deep cavity usually require at least R1.0 mm. When mating parts require sharp corners, EDM or a corner design adjustment can be used.

Does the aluminum temper affect a heavily machined plate?

Yes. Plates with extensive material removal require the aluminum grade and temper to be specified together, with a matching stress-relief and deformation-control plan. If mounting faces have flatness requirements, include flatness, plate thickness and weight-reduction areas in the quotation request.

Can thermal contact faces be left unanodized?

Masking areas can be specified for thermal contact faces, while exterior surfaces receive the required anodized color or sandblasted texture. Contact face roughness and surface condition can be specified separately to address both heat-source contact and housing appearance.

Can you mill open channels for an aluminum cold plate?

Yes. Open channels, cover contact faces and mounting holes can be machined, with burr removal at channels and hole openings. Minimum internal channel width is 3.0 mm and minimum depth is 1.0 mm. Specify cleaning, cover joining, plug and leak-test requirements for the project. Leak-test arrangements depend on project and order requirements.

Should I specify the same surface roughness for all faces on an aluminum milled part?

No. Specify Ra 3.2 um for general milled faces, finish-milled Ra 1.6 um for mounting and contact faces, and polished Ra 0.2 um for visible faces where needed. Assigning roughness by function limits finishing to the faces that need it and reduces machining time.

Can housings and cover plates be supplied with matching anodized colors?

Yes. Parts can be processed to the same color reference number and appearance standard. Specify material grade, surface texture and sandblasting requirements together. Samples can be used to approve the finished appearance of housings and covers.

What details help you quote an aluminum CNC milled housing accurately?

Send a 3D model and 2D drawing specifying material and temper, quantity and intended use. Cavity depth-to-width ratio, minimum wall thickness, internal corner radius and mounting face flatness affect the machining plan and time for a housing. Accepted formats include STEP, IGES, STP, DWG and dimensioned PDF files.

What are the payment, shipping and packaging options?

Payment options: T/T, PayPal, Western Union. Shipping options: DHL / FedEx / UPS / Sea freight. Packaging: foam and cartons; wooden crates on request.
