Stainless Steel Sealing Faces and O-Ring Grooves

We machine valve-block sealing faces and O-ring grooves so seals and adjacent interfaces assemble to the drawing. Sealing surface roughness can reach Ra 0.8 um, with a minimum O-ring groove width of 1.0 mm and groove-depth tolerance of 0.01 mm. The machining plan addresses sealing face flatness, groove dimensions and burr requirements together.

Stainless Steel Mounting Faces and Locating Hole Patterns

Stainless steel mounts can include datum faces, locating steps and hole patterns to connect equipment with sensors, valves or other components. Flatness capability is 0.02 mm over a maximum machining area of 1030 x 1030 mm. Hole-pattern position tolerance can reach 0.015 mm, with the machining and inspection plan determined by hole diameter, spacing, count and design datums. Relationships between faces and holes can be checked with a CMM.

Stainless Steel Pockets and Deep-Cavity Tool Access

Flow blocks and cavities can include milled internal spaces, interface steps and connection holes. Long tool overhang in deep cavities and stainless steel work hardening affect cutting, so cavity depth, opening width and internal corner radius must be considered together. Cavity depth-to-width ratios can reach 4:1, or 5:1 with longer tools, subject to chatter and surface-quality evaluation. Minimum end-milled internal radius is R0.5 mm, and internal corners in a 40 mm deep cavity can reach R1.0 mm. These features guide tool selection for access to the cavity and machining of internal contours and mounting features.

Stainless Steel Thin-Wall Housings and Distortion Control

Open cavities, outer walls and assembly faces on thin-wall housings can be milled together. Wall and opening deformation after material removal is a key concern. Metal wall thickness can reach 0.5 mm, with blank pretreatment, aging for stress relief, layered machining and cutting parameter optimization selected according to geometry and workholding. Inspection can focus on wall thickness, opening shape and cover mounting faces to verify assembly requirements for the housing and internal components.

Applications

Valve Blocks for Chemical Fluid Control

Typical parts: Valve Blocks, Fluid Distribution Blocks

Valve and distribution blocks connect pipelines to control valves, with interface faces and sealing grooves for valves and seals. Fluid-contact areas can use corrosion-resistant stainless steel matched to operating conditions. We mill mounting faces, O-ring grooves and interface hole patterns to supply custom fluid connection parts made to drawings.

Sensor Mounts for Washdown Environments

Typical parts: Sensor Mounts, Locating Brackets

Mounts and brackets secure sensors on automation equipment. Locating steps and hole patterns define sensor mounting positions. For damp or frequently washed environments, corrosion-resistant grades can be selected according to the cleaning medium, with coordinated machining of datum flats, steps and fastening holes.

Flow Blocks and Cavities for Analytical Instruments

Typical parts: Instrument Flow Blocks, Instrument Cavities

Flow blocks connect sampling or transfer pipelines, while cavities provide mounting space for internal instrument components. Stainless steel suits structures requiring corrosion resistance and smooth contact surfaces. Milling produces non-rotational cavities, interface flats and hole systems, with mechanical polishing available for specified contact faces.

Instrument Holders for Medical Equipment

Typical parts: Instrument Holders, Positioning Components

Clamping slots, mounting faces and mating bores secure instruments and connect internal equipment components. Stainless steel’s corrosion resistance and polishable surfaces suit structures with cleaning and surface requirements. The specific medical application, cleaning conditions and applicable standards must be evaluated against drawings and requirements.

Why Choose Us

Quality Systems and Equipment for Custom Milling

XCM CNC’s quality systems include ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C, with equipment from DMG, Mazak, Matsuura and Brother. Valve blocks, mounts and cavities are machined and dimensionally inspected against drawings.

Milling and Secondary Operations Delivered Together

The factory machines parts from small connectors to large structural components. Local shapes or accuracy requirements that milling alone cannot readily achieve can use necessary grinding, EDM or wire EDM. Passivation and polishing can also be coordinated according to the order, allowing you to source parts with machining and surface treatment completed.

Equipment Matched to Feature Accuracy and Cost

We use four equipment tiers from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe and North America, matching machines to part and operation accuracy requirements. Locating holes, sealing faces and general outer profiles each use equipment suited to their required accuracy, balancing machining quality and order cost.

Inspection Documents for Sealing Faces and Hole Patterns

CMM reports, FAI first article reports and material certificates can be provided according to the order. Report items correspond to drawing datum faces, locating holes and groove dimensions. Sealing face roughness can be measured separately, giving both dimensional and surface-quality records clearly defined inspection targets.

Prototype Approval before Production

Prototypes typically take 3-7 days, depending on part complexity and project requirements. Samples let you check valve-block interfaces, mounting hole positions and cavity assembly. After approval, production follows the approved drawings and surface requirements.

FAQ

How should I choose between 304 and 316L for a milled fluid block?

Material selection depends on the medium, concentration, operating temperature and cleaning conditions. 316L can be a particular focus for evaluation in marine or chloride-containing environments, but the final grade must match actual corrosion-resistance requirements.

Can a milled stainless steel part use 303 if welding is required?

If welding is required, evaluate whether 303 is suitable first. Projects with an undecided material can also compare 304 or 316L, considering welding requirements, corrosion resistance and post-weld finish machining together.

Can a lower Ra be specified only on the sealing face?

Yes. Specify the required roughness only on the sealing face and machine other faces to their respective functional requirements. This concentrates finish machining or necessary secondary operations on critical contact areas. Also specify that face’s dimensions and flatness.

What information is needed for an O-ring groove?

Provide groove width, groove depth, seal size and adjacent mating face dimensions, along with groove-edge burr and surface roughness requirements. These define the groove geometry, sealing contact surfaces and corresponding inspection items.

Can mounting faces be finish-machined after welding?

Submit post-weld drawings and the actual part condition for evaluation of finish machining on mounting faces, locating holes or cavities. The plan depends on post-weld deformation, remaining machining allowance and available clamping locations.

Can you provide passivation and a specified polished appearance?

Natural-finish stainless steel passivation and mirror, bright or matte mechanical polishing can be supplied. The order can specify the passivation standard, contact-surface cleanliness requirements and an appearance standard or reference sample. Required passivation reports depend on order requirements.

What should I send for a stainless steel milling quotation?

Provide 2D/3D drawings, material grade and condition, quantity, tolerances and surface requirements. For fluid-contact parts, also state the medium and required inspection documents. STEP, IGES, STP, DWG and dimensioned PDF files are supported for evaluation of milling and post-processing quotations.
