Stainless Steel Pump Shaft Coaxiality, Runout and Bearing Fit Inspection

Multiple outside diameters on stainless steel pump shafts can achieve coaxiality of 0.012 mm and circular runout of 0.012 mm, with shaft diameters machined to h6 or h7. Bearing seats, sealing features and locating end faces are controlled by section against drawing datums, with shaft diameter tolerance of +/-0.01 mm. Coaxiality and runout are inspected with a Hexagon Inspector Classic 06.08.06 CMM. Height and length dimensions are cross-checked with a TRIMOS 600L height gauge.

Stainless Steel Long Shaft Straightness, Support and L/D 15:1 Capability

Slender shafts can reach a length-to-diameter ratio of 15:1 and maximum turning length of 2000 mm. When the ratio exceeds the normal range, steady-rest and follow-rest support locations and machining sequence require evaluation to avoid chatter and bending deformation. Straightness can reach 0.01 mm / 1030 mm. Tolerances for each mating section and straightness requirements are agreed together with the support plan.

Stainless Steel Sleeve Bore Roundness, Coaxiality and Surface Grading

Sleeve bores can achieve roundness of 0.006 mm and internal-to-external diameter coaxiality of 0.012 mm. Turned outside diameters achieve Ra 0.8 um and bored holes Ra 1.6 um. Where bores require Ra 0.8 um, honing can be evaluated according to bore diameter and length. Internal and external mating dimensions and roughness are inspected separately with a CMM and roughness tester.

Stainless Steel Threaded Fittings with Pipe Threads, Grooves and GO/NO-GO Gauging

Threaded fittings can include NPT, BSP, G and PT pipe threads, locating end faces and annular grooves. Threads are turned to the specified standard and effective thread depth, then inspected with matching go/no-go or ring gauges. Minimum general turned groove width is 0.5 mm. Minimum O-ring groove width is 1.0 mm, with groove-depth tolerance of 0.01 mm. Grade selection depends on the contact medium and corrosion-resistance requirements. The free-machining properties of 303 improve turning efficiency, but its corrosion resistance is lower than that of 304 and 316L, requiring an application-based tradeoff.

Why Choose Us

Quality Systems for Shaft, Sleeve and Fitting Procurement

We have ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C quality systems, with equipment from DMG, Mazak, Matsuura, Brother and other manufacturers. Stainless steel shafts, sleeves and fittings can be produced and dimensionally inspected against specified drawings.

Supporting Operations from Small Connectors to Large Rotational Parts

The factory’s machining range covers small connectors through large structural parts. Turning can be coordinated with grinding and other necessary secondary operations to meet different shaft diameter, bore and sealing feature requirements. Passivation and polishing can be arranged for corrosion-resistance and surface requirements, delivering parts in the required material condition and surface quality.

Tiered Equipment Strategy for Low-Cost CNC Machining, Quality-Assured Production

XCM CNC operates four tiers of CNC equipment from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe and North America. Lower-tolerance operations such as general outside diameters and non-critical end faces use mainland Chinese or Taiwanese equipment. High-precision bearing seats, sealing features and mating threads use imported machines such as DMG and Mazak. Equipment is matched to each part’s actual accuracy requirements, reserving machines with higher hourly costs for demanding operations and reducing machining costs while meeting drawing requirements.

Packaging Protection for Mating Diameters and Threads

Packaging protection can be specified separately for shaft mating surfaces, polished visible surfaces and threads. Packaging uses foam and cartons, with wooden crates for large or heavy parts. Mating outside diameters and finish-machined threads use protective sleeves or separating wraps to reduce transit damage to assembly features. Shipping options include DHL, FedEx, UPS and sea freight.

Material Traceability and NDAs on Request

Material certificates can be supplied according to the order, recording the specified grade, heat number and delivered condition so material sources are traceable for each batch. CMM reports and FAI first article reports record shaft diameters, coaxiality and runout. An NDA can be signed before design information is submitted when drawing confidentiality is required.

FAQ

What runout and coaxiality should I specify for a pump shaft?

Specify the measurement datums, inspection section locations and allowed values for circular and face runout on the drawing. Coaxiality across multiple outside diameters should be related to an axis datum. Factory capabilities are coaxiality 0.012 mm, circular runout 0.012 mm and face runout 0.012 mm. Actual achievable values depend on shaft length and workholding.

What material condition should I specify for hardened stainless grades?

Specify the delivered condition, heat-treatment condition and final hardness requirements. The machining plan and accuracy are evaluated for the final condition. Bearing seats and sealing features may require finish machining after heat treatment, so the drawing should define machining sequence and final condition.

Can a turned outside surface have a mirror finish?

Mirror mechanical polishing can be supplied. Specify polishing areas, appearance standards and mating dimensions after treatment. Turned roughness and mirror appearance are separate requirements and should be agreed separately.

What matters when ordering a sleeve with both bore and outside fits?

Specify mating dimensions for the bore and outside diameter separately, along with their datum relationship and end-face requirements. For thin-wall sleeves, workholding and deformation must be evaluated against wall thickness and length. Roughness on each mating surface can be selected by function.

How should material certificates be specified for turned parts?

List the required material certificate type, applicable standard and material-condition records in the quotation request. Document scope depends on order requirements so the material records correspond to the specified grade and delivered condition.

How should I specify a pipe thread on a stainless fitting?

State the complete thread designation, size, effective thread depth and acceptance standard on the drawing. For fittings that mate with existing piping, also provide the mating interface standard to establish machining and thread-gauge requirements.

How are turned shafts and sleeves packaged for shipment?

Mating outside diameters and finish-machined threads use protective sleeves or separating wraps and are packed in foam and cartons. Large or heavy parts use wooden crates. Shipping options include DHL, FedEx, UPS and sea freight, selected according to part size and quantity.
