Coaxial Nickel Alloy Turning Features

Stepped outside diameters, bores and end faces on nickel alloy sleeves usually share a rotational datum. Coaxiality is easiest to maintain when drawing, machining and inspection datums match. Coaxiality between shaft/bore features and stepped outside diameters can reach 0.012 mm with defined datums and inspection methods, completing multiple sections in one setup where possible. Nickel alloys work harden significantly. Allowance between rough and finish turning affects final coaxiality between stepped outside diameters and bores.

Long and Thin-Wall Nickel Alloy Turning Support

Slender shafts can reach a length-to-diameter ratio of 15:1 and maximum turning length of 2000 mm, with steady rests, follower rests and staged operations controlling distortion. High nickel alloy cutting forces can cause slender workpieces to deflect away from the tool, making straightness and coaxiality dependent on support positions and allowances. Minimum thin-sleeve wall thickness is evaluated against the metalworking capability of 0.5 mm, requiring blank pretreatment, stress-relief aging and optimized machining parameters. Suitability depends on grade, wall height and clamping.

Turned Nickel Alloy Sealing Surfaces

Turned outside diameters on bearing seats, sealing seats and mating cylinders are Ra 0.8 um, bored holes Ra 1.6 um, and sealing faces can also reach Ra 0.8 um. Shaft diameters can follow +/-0.01 mm or h6/h7 drawing requirements. Circular runout of 0.012 mm and roughness are inspected separately. Minimum O-ring groove width is 1.0 mm with a depth tolerance of 0.01 mm. Specify burr requirements at groove openings and intersecting edges on the drawing.

Nickel Alloy Threads and Shoulders

Threads on valve stems, fittings and sleeves often share an assembly relationship with shoulders, end faces and sealing cylinders. Internal threads start at M1.4 and external threads at M2.0. Pipe threads can follow NPT, BSP, G and PT standards, with functional threads checked by go/no-go or thread ring gauges. Specify thread classes, effective thread depths and surface requirements for freedom from crossed or damaged threads and burrs together on the drawing.

Applications

Chemical Valve Stems and Seats

A valve stem or valve seat in a chemical valve contacts corrosive media. Media, concentration and temperature determine the nickel alloy grade, while drawings define supplied heat treatment condition. Circular runout of stem diameters and sealing seats relative to rotational datums can be controlled to 0.012 mm, with valve-seat sealing roughness reaching Ra 0.8 um. Both directly affect assembly and sealing acceptance.

Threaded Connectors and Seal Sleeves for Oil and Gas Tools

A threaded connector or seal sleeve for oil and gas tools must connect and seal. Inside and outside threads, coaxial cylindrical surfaces and end faces are generally related on the same drawing. Pipe threads can follow NPT, BSP, G and PT standards and are checked with go/no-go or ring gauges. Sleeve bore-to-outside-diameter coaxiality can reach 0.012 mm. Downhole or subsea operating conditions require drawing- and requirement-based evaluation.

Corrosion-Resistant Pump Shafts and Sleeves

A pump shaft or shaft sleeve has bearing and sealing outside diameters turned to Ra 0.8 um, with shaft tolerance following +/-0.01 mm or h6/h7 requirements and circular runout of 0.012 mm checked together. Longer pump shafts can reach length-to-diameter ratios of 15:1 and require steady rests, follower rests or similar support to control straightness.

Roller Sleeves for High-Temperature Furnaces

A roller sleeve or drive coupling sleeve in a high-temperature furnace is exposed to prolonged heat. Operating temperature and loads determine the need for heat-resistant nickel alloys and the grade and heat treatment condition. Outside diameters, shoulders, end faces and bores are verified around one rotational axis. Larger sleeves can be evaluated within the turning capacity of diameter 1250 mm at a length of 2000 mm.

Why Choose Us

Quality Systems and Turning Equipment

Our factory operates under ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949 and GJB9001C quality systems. Turning and turn-mill operations use equipment such as the Mazak I-100S turn-mill center, supported by DMG, Matsuura and Brother machining equipment.

From Small Fittings to Large Rotational Parts

Our machining coverage extends from small connectors to large structural parts. Turning includes large rotational parts up to diameter 1250 mm at 2000 mm length on the Shenyang CK61125X2000 CNC lathe, as well as small internal threads of M1.4. Outside diameters, bores, threads and deburring on nickel alloy shafts, sleeves, valve stems and threaded fittings can be planned together.

Equipment Matched to Accuracy, Quality and Cost

Machines are selected from four equipment tiers from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe and the United States according to part and operation accuracy requirements. Nickel alloy mating outside diameters, bores and sealing faces are considered separately from general profile features to balance machining quality and cost.

Sample Approval before Batch Production

Samples are made before batches and usually take 3-7 days. Production follows your approval of mating dimensions, threads and acceptance condition.

Inspection Documents Supplied with the Order

CMM reports, FAI reports in the customer’s format and material certificates can be supplied according to order requirements. Geometric characteristics such as coaxiality and runout use CMMs or roundness testers, while threads use go/no-go or ring gauges.

FAQ

What affects coaxiality on a nickel alloy shaft or sleeve?

The main factors are whether bores and stepped outside diameters share a rotational datum, whether they are completed in one setup and whether inspection uses the same datum. Coaxiality of 0.012 mm requires defined datums and inspection methods. Separate setups for bores and outside diameters introduce additional datum-transfer error. Identify functional datums on the drawing.

How do long shafts or thin-wall sleeves affect turning cost?

They mainly affect clamping and operation count. Slender shafts need steady-rest or follower-rest support and staged machining, while thin sleeves require control of clamping distortion. Rapid tool wear in nickel alloys also increases cutting time. Quotes depend on length, diameter, wall thickness, runout requirements and supply condition.

Which material details should be on a nickel alloy turning drawing?

Specify alloy grade, procurement standard, supply condition and required heat treatment condition separately. Inconel 625, Inconel 718, Hastelloy C-276 and Monel 400 cannot be interchanged by name. If heat treatment follows turning, state whether mating diameters and bores are accepted before or after treatment, since dimensional changes affect finish-turning allowance. Material certificates must match the order-specified grade and standard.

Can a nickel alloy journal be held to IT5 or IT6?

IT5 and IT6 are established accuracy grades. The combination of turning and necessary secondary operations such as grinding depends on drawings and requirements; not every shaft diameter needs a secondary process. General fits can follow +/-0.01 mm shaft/bore fits or h6/H7 requirements. Specify outside and inside roughness separately: turned outside diameters Ra 0.8 um and bored holes Ra 1.6 um.

What documents can accompany a nickel alloy turned part?

Material certificates, CMM reports and FAI reports in the customer’s format can be supplied according to order requirements. Roundness, coaxiality and runout use CMMs or roundness testers, roughness uses a roughness tester, and threads use go/no-go or ring gauges. Establish critical-dimension report scope and format during inquiry.

What do you need to quote a turned nickel alloy part, and how long does a sample take?

Dimensioned 2D drawings with tolerances provide the most direct information. Accepted formats include STEP, IGES, STP, DWG and dimensioned PDF. A 3D model provides geometry only; drawings generally define fit tolerances, roughness and threads. Provide both where possible, plus grade, quantity and intended use. Orders start at 1 piece, samples take 3-7 days and batch lead times are usually 10-15 days depending on complexity and quantity. An NDA can be signed for confidential information.

Can special high-temperature or subsea shaft applications be reviewed?

Yes, these applications can be evaluated against drawings and requirements. Provide material standards, service temperature and media, acceptance specifications and critical features so turning and inspection plans can be reviewed. Factory quality systems such as ISO 9001 and GJB9001C are not equivalent to industry approval of the part.
